Martha Nelson was named Editorial Director of Time, Inc., the number two editorial executive position at the company, in December 2010. In this role, she oversees all titles and editors in the Style & Entertainment Group and the Lifestyle Group, including magazines such as PEOPLE, InStyle, Entertainment Weekly, Real Simple, and Essence. She was previously Editor of the Style & Entertainment Group, Editor of the PEOPLE Group, and the founding Editor in Chief of InStyle. Martha was named “Editor of the Year” by Adweek in 2006, and Forbes featured her as “One of the World’s Most Powerful Women” in 2004, 2005, and 2006. In 2005, Media Industry News recognized her as one of the media industry’s “21 Most Intriguing,” and she is regularly included in OUT magazine’s “Power 50.” Martha was honored with the Jennifer Estess Award by Project A.L.S in 2007, and was honored at the inaugural Variety Power of Women Luncheon in 2009. She has accepted awards on behalf of PEOPLE magazine from The Actor’s Fund, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and she has accepted a special award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America on behalf of InStyle. In addition to her work with ACRIA, Martha serves of the Board of Directors of the Actor’s Fund and the Advisory Board for the New York University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
