Stephen Karpiak, PhD

 
Stephen Karpiak, PhD, joined ACRIA in 2002 as Assistant Director of Research, serving as primary investigator for the agency’s new behavioral research effort, including the groundbreaking Research on Older Adults with HIV (ROAH) study.  Previously, he served for over 20 years on the faculty at Columbia University’s medical school as a research scientist in neurobiology and immunology.  After working as a Director at AIDS Project Arizona he became the Executive Director of A Place Called Home in Phoenix, which provides housing for homeless people with HIV/AIDS, and then of Pride Senior Network in New York City. Dr. Karpiak has published over 250 articles in scientific journals and books, and has been an invited lecturer at national and international fora.
