Capacity Building and Technical Assistance Seminars

ACRIA designs and delivers specially tailored training, technical assistance and capacity building seminars that focus on the integration of HIV prevention, testing, and treatment for older adults who are at risk for or living with HIV.

Those above age 50 will soon represent one-half of all people living with HIV in the U.S. and constitute one in six new infections. As a result, aging and HIV providers, among others, are in great need of targeted and tailored materials and training to help them deliver appropriate care and prevention services. ACRIA can help!

Recognizing the need for such a program and ACRIA’s internationally-recognized expertise, in 2010 the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute funded a special one year training project for key HIV and senior providers in Westchester County, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, and on Long Island.

Funded by the MAC AIDS Fund since 2008, ACRIA has delivered over-subscribed multi-day technical assistance and capacity building seminars to dozens of HIV and aging services organizations in New Orleans, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Washington, DC/Baltimore, San Francisco/Oakland, St. Louis/East St. Louis, and in South Carolina.

On its own and in collaboration with other partners in this HIV and Aging Consortium, ACRIA has made presentations at many conferences, including the U.S. Conference on AIDS; conducted high-level policy briefings to legislators and officials on both the state and national level; organized and conducted an HIV and Aging satellite at the XVIII International Conference on AIDS (the first time that topic was addressed at that biennial meeting) and helped convene and participated in the first-ever White House Meeting on HIV and Aging.
