ACRIA is delighted that the AIDS Institute is hosting its third annual National HIV/AIDS & Aging Awareness Day (NHAAAD) on September 18, 2010. The theme of this year’s campaign is, “Aging is a part of life; HIV doesn’t have to be,” and is recognized by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of HIV/AIDS Policy, and www.aids.gov.
“It is critically important that this segment of the HIV-positive population is equipped with a roadmap to navigate the compounding issues of HIV and aging,” says Dr. Stephen Karpiak, Associate Director of Research at ACRIA. “Events like NHAAAD can both empower and improve the lives of older adults as they determine how the aging process will affect living with HIV/AIDS.”
ACRIA applauds the inclusion of older adults in the important on-going work of the National AIDS Awareness Day programming, and greatly looks forward to participating in the event. To learn more about NHAAAD please visit http://aids.gov/awareness-days/#event-details.
