ACRIA, its Board, and staff join the entire nation in mourning the loss of Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy.
A fearless and tireless leader on a host of social justice issues, Senator Kennedy was directly involved in the development and passage of critical and life-saving HIV/AIDS-related legislation: from promoting prevention and testing to increasing access to treatement and care, and from fighting stigma to addressing racial and economic health disparities. Most especially, his advocacy was central to the passage of the groundbreaking Ryan White CARE Act in 1990.
Senator Kennedy was a steadfast supporter of all communities affected by HIV & AIDS, appyling an essential civil rights and social justice framework to the question of how we treat people living with the disease. His leadership was singualr in the Senate and he will be missed.
