The AIDS Community Research Initiative of America conducts a comprehensive HIV Health Literacy Program, offering a diverse roster of services for people living with AIDS (PLWAs).

Each year, we conduct hundreds of Group HIV Health Literacy Workshops and Individual Health Literacy Counseling Sessions in cooperation with neighborhood-based AIDS service organizations in the New York Metropolitan region. Sessions are provided in either English or Spanish depending on the audience. For information on how you can receive personalized treatment education, call our HIV Health Literacy Department at (212) 924-3934 ext.120, or send us an e-mail below.

ACRIA's publications include a number of valuable HIV Health Literacy education resources for PLWAs, most of which are available on this web site. Current and back issues of our quarterly HIV health literacy periodical can be accessed by choosing the Thrive/ACRIA Update link on the left. Other topic specific brochures created by ACRIA, such as our publication called Understanding Your Lab Results, can be accessed in the section on the left labeled Other Printed Materials.

ACRIA offers a free Technical Assistance Program for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in New York City. This capacity-building program is a unique opportunity for CBOs that provide services to people with HIV throughout New York City to integrate treatment information and counseling into the services they offer. The two-part program includes a four-day HIV Health Literacy education & skills-building training followed by the provision of ongoing technical assistance and support to the agency. For more information, click here.

ACRIA's primary service outside of New York is a national technical assistance initiative aimed at training other communtiy-based organizations how to also provide comprehensive, culturally and linguistically appropriate information on HIV healthcare issues. Its purpose is to rapidly expand understanding by PLWAs in large and small cities across the United States of their most beneficial treatment options.

Throughout the 1990's and until mid-2003, ACRIA co-sponsored Community HIV Treatment Forums. Click here for forum summaries.
